Genetic Counsellor Associate
Description
(A) SPECIFIC (80%) Evaluates indication for referral and triages cases as necessary Obtains accurate family history/medical information and relevant documents from patients Construct at least a 3-generation pedigree using standard nomenclature Explain genetic test options available to patients Obtains patients’ informed consent for genetic testing, as assigned by supervisor Assists in genetic test ordering administration and operations Discuss cascade testing options Books, reschedules and cancels appointments as per patients’, genetic counsellors’ or genetics doctors’ request Assists with the preparation of written communications to patients Maintains accurate records of genetic tests done and provides reports when required Responsible in collation, data entry of process indicators necessary for submission to GAC, ICRP and MOH when required Participates in conducting clinical and service evaluation projects so as to achieve better patient outcomes Attends to phone calls or email queries coming through the department and works with colleagues to ensure services are provided to all patients and family members (B) GENERAL (20%) To carry out any other duties assigned by the Supervisor Performs other administrative duties when assigned Adheres to workplace health and safety standards Adheres to MOH regulation on genetic testing (A) EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Possess Degree (preferably in Biomedical Sciences, Nursing or related field) OR Diploma (preferably in Biomedical Science, Nursing or related field) with 4 years working experience Undergo an Executive Certificate in Genetic Counselling course (or equivalent). Good knowledge of human genetic disorders. Has desire in working in a helping profession. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
