I have complete instructional storyboards and visual design guides in hand; now I need those ideas transformed into polished, fully functional digital learning modules. You will take the raw design files and handle every technical step—building interactions, integrating multimedia, implementing assessments, and packaging the course so it runs smoothly across modern browsers and the major LMS environments my clients use.
Key Responsibilities
- Design-to-Product Transformation: Partner closely with Instructional Designers (IDs) to interpret storyboards and wireframes. Act as the lead engineer to convert these concepts into high-functioning, responsive digital learning products.
- Cross-Functional Teamwork: Work iteratively within a creative team. You will collaborate with IDs to ensure the technology supports the learning goals and with Graphic Designers to ensure the product meets visual and brand standards.
- Project Lifecycle Awareness: Maintain a clear understanding of where development fits within the project lifecycle. Provide technical feasibility advice during the design stage and take full ownership of the technical build, testing, and deployment phases.
- Interoperability & Data Collection: Configure and troubleshoot products using industry standards (SCORM 1.2/2004, xAPI, AICC, and LTI) to ensure accurate tracking of learner progress and seamless LMS compatibility.
- Advanced Simulation Programming: Develop high-fidelity simulations that integrate with external tools to create realistic, risk-free practice environments.
- Media Interaction & Analytics: Develop interactive video and podcast-style products with embedded engagement triggers and robust analytics integration.
- Technical Quality Assurance: Ensure all products are functional, accessible (WCAG/Section 508), and optimized for performance across various platforms.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Debug technical issues occurring at the intersection of custom code, authoring software, and the Learning Management System (LMS). Perform rigorous technical QA, including performance profiling to resolve frame rate drops, memory leaks, and responsive scaling problems.
- Systems Integration: Write production-quality JavaScript to extend authoring tools beyond their native capabilities (e.g., custom timers, conditional rendering, real-time data manipulation) and bridge data flows between different software components.
