Our Mission To empower communities especially youth, women, and vulnerable groups—by advancing inclusive, locally driven solutions in health, education, livelihoods, climate resilience, and governance. Project Background Future4Binti is a regional initiative funded by the Government of the Netherlands and led by Amref Health Africa in partnership with Plan International and local civil society organizations across Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia. The program aims to eliminate harmful practices, including FGM/C and child, early, and forced marriage (CEFM/U), and to advance gender equality for girls and young women. alignAfrica is implementing the project in Dubti, Asayita, and Afambo woredas of Afar Region, focusing on community-level transformation, social norms change, and inclusive engagement. Purpose of the Role The Community Mobilizer will lead grassroots engagement and facilitate community-driven actions to prevent harmful practices and promote gender equality. The role focuses on mobilizing communities, facilitating dialogues, supporting youth engagement, and strengthening local ownership of change processes.  Key Responsibilities Community Engagement & Mobilization Mobilize communities, including elders, religious leaders, women, youth, and local groups to participate in project activities.  Facilitate community dialogues, awareness sessions, and behavior change discussions on harmful practices.  Support the formation and strengthening of community groups and local structures.  Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Deliver key messages on gender equality, harmful practices prevention, and child protection using culturally appropriate approaches.  Support campaigns, events, and outreach activities at community level.  Promote inclusive participation of girls, young women, and persons with disabilities.  Youth & Women Engagement Engage youth groups and women’s groups in advocacy and leadership activities.  Support Youth Advisory Groups (YAGs) and community champions.  Facilitate safe spaces for girls and vulnerable groups.  Data Collection & Reporting Collect routine data and community feedback using approved tools.  Support monitoring activities and ensure data quality.  Submit regular activity reports to the Project Coordinator.  Stakeholder Coordination Work closely with woreda officials, community leaders, and local partners.  Participate in local coordination meetings and platforms.  Strengthen collaboration with schools, health facilities, and community institutions.  Safeguarding & Compliance Ensure adherence to safeguarding, child protection, and gender inclusion principles.  Promote a “Do No Harm” approach in all activities.  Report any risks or incidents in line with organizational policies.  Core Competencies Strong community mobilization and facilitation skills  Good communication and interpersonal abilities  Cultural sensitivity and understanding of Afar context  Commitment to gender equality and social inclusion  Basic data collection and reporting skills  Ability to work in remote and challenging environments  Expected Outputs Increased community awareness and engagement on harmful practices  Active participation of youth, women, and marginalized groups  Timely and accurate activity reports  Strengthened community structures and local ownership  Positive behavioral and social change at community level  Working Conditions Based in assigned woreda (Dubti, Afambo, or Asayita)  Frequent field travel within communities  Work in remote, resource-limited, and culturally sensitive settings
