We are looking for a Hydrogeologist to join our Hydrogeology team within the Engineering function. Our Hydrogeologists report to the Lead Hydrogeologist and will be expected to take ownership of the hydrogeological and geological engineering output for critical capital projects.

As a vital member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be involved in every stage of the project lifecycle—from initial feasibility and scoping to detailed design, construction, and final commissioning.

You will input and contribute to technical deliverables on Capital Projects under direction from the respective Project Managers in accordance with the requirements set down by the Lead Hydrogeologist and relevant asset standards.

As Hydrogeologist you will be expected to manage and prioritise your own workload to meet the demands of various ongoing projects. You will adhere to Health and Safety/CDM requirements, actively identifying hazards and working towards mitigation or removal of the hazard through engineering design.

Main responsibilities:

  • Development of technical solutions and coordinating work with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Production of technical reports and the ability to work independently and as a team member to carry out checking, reviews and approval of complex technical reports and analyses.
  • Analysis of options and selection of technical solutions as appropriate.
  • Feel empowered to act on the best available data within the guidelines of SEW and Regulatory frameworks.
  • Ensuring contractors work complies with both SEW, Regulatory and Industry best practice.
  • Assistance in preparation of scoping documents, project reports and close out documents in concert with contractors and other SEW teams.
  • Review and authorise technical works for final sign off by Lead Hydrogeologist.
  • Support direct reports when working independently either on projects or in the field.
  • Maintain BH condition database and use best judgement when assessing criteria.
  • On-site inspection of works and surveys in accordance with industry best practice and regulatory guidance.
  • Challenge preconceptions and approach problems with new perspectives.
  • Participation in multi disciplinary meetings to ensure the smooth tranisition of iformation.

You'll need: Skills / Qualifications / Experience

  • MSc in Hydrogeology.
  • Chartered Geologist or working towards.
  • Technically competent knowing when to refer to others when required. Experience analysing Bore Hole performance using industry standard techniques.
  • Good technical report writing and good oral communication.
  • Solid knowledge of different aquifers and their characteristics.
  • A developing understanding of the multi disciplinary approach to operating as a Hydrogeologist in todays academic & industrial setting (catchment issues, regulatory issues, land contamination, engineering).
  • Competent IT skills, conversant with the Google suite.
  • You will ideally have gained experience in the water industry or within the broader utilities and/or subsurface industry.
  • Understanding of EA Regulations and DWI Standards.
  • Good technical delivery on projects.
  • Work under pressure and progress work within budget and deadlines.
  • Ability to work closely with others and communicate effectively.

Compensation package:

Up to £45,000 p.a. dependant on experience.**
