We are proud to be working with a welcoming, two-form entry primary school in Islington that is seeking a dedicated and experienced Year 2 Class Teacher to join their team for the full academic year from September 2026 to July 2027. Role Overview
Position: Year 2 Class Teacher (KS1) Start Date: September 2026 - July 2027 Location: Islington Pay: MPS 1-6 Inner London (£206.95 - £268.21 per day, PAYE) Contract: Full-time, full academic year
Key Responsibilities
As a Year 2 Class Teacher, you will play a key role in preparing pupils for the end of Key Stage 1, ensuring they are confident, independent learners ready for Key Stage 2. Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons in line with the KS1 National Curriculum
- Preparing pupils for end-of-Key Stage 1 assessments (SATs), ensuring they are supported academically and emotionally
- Delivering high-quality phonics and guided reading sessions to consolidate early reading skills
- Teaching core subjects (English, Maths, Science) to a high standard, with a focus on closing attainment gaps
- Assessing, tracking, and monitoring pupil progress, using data to inform planning and targeted interventions
- Creating a structured yet engaging classroom environment that promotes independence and resilience
- Managing behaviour effectively using consistent routines and positive reinforcement strategies
- Supporting pupils with a range of needs, including SEN, EAL, and differing attainment levels
- Working closely with your parallel Year 2 teacher to plan, moderate, and share best practice
- Building strong relationships with parents and carers to support pupil progress and wellbeing
- Contributing to the wider school community, including meetings, events, and collaborative planning
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have strong KS1 teaching experience, ideally within Year 2
- Be confident in preparing pupils for KS1 SATs and securing strong outcomes
- Have a solid understanding of phonics and early reading development
- Demonstrate excellent behaviour management and a calm, consistent approach
- Be committed to raising attainment and ensuring all pupils make strong progress
- Thrive in a collaborative, two-form entry environment
- Be proactive, reflective, and passionate about teaching and learning
