CNC Helical Shaft Machining

Deadline: 2026-04-07
Project-Based

Description

Budget: ₹100 - ₹400/hr

I need a cylindrical metal blank converted into a finished helical shaft for a rack-and-pinion style power-transmission assembly. The work revolves around four essentials: CNC-controlled helical cutting, repeatable micron-level accuracy, continuous coolant to manage heat, and rigid support between centers so the shaft stays perfectly true throughout the cut.

Your program should drive a 4-axis (or 5-axis) mill to generate evenly spaced grooves of consistent pitch and depth along the full length. Toolpaths must account for chip evacuation and thermal growth; chatter marks or taper are unacceptable. I will confirm final dimensions, material grade, and exact tolerances once the NDA is returned, but plan for a hardened engineering steel core that must leave your shop within Ra 1.6 µm and run-out no greater than 0.02 mm.

Deliverables • Finished shaft, deburred, cleaned, and ready for assembly • Dimensional inspection report documenting groove width, depth, pitch, concentricity, and surface roughness • CAM or NC files plus a concise setup sheet listing tool numbers, spindle speed, feed, coolant type, and fixturing method

Acceptance criteria: groove pitch deviation ≤ 0.03 mm across the entire part and no visible surface defects.

If you foresee alternative fixtures, tooling, or sequence changes that would improve precision or throughput, outline them up front so we can lock the spec before chips fly.
