Comprehensive Wind Blade Fatigue Analysis
Description
Budget: €30 - €250
I need a full-scope fatigue assessment for a horizontal-axis wind-turbine blade that is manufactured from carbon fiber. The study must be carried out with a fracture mechanics approach rather than an S-N or ε-N method, so crack-initiation and growth modelling will sit at the heart of the work.
To complete the task XXXX XXXX have to build or refine a 3-D finite-element model of the blade, apply realistic aerodynamic and gravitational load spectra, locate the most critical stress hot-spots, and then calculate crack-growth life using appropriate fracture parameters (e.g., Paris law in terms of G or ΔK, threshold, R-ratio effects). Where material data are unavailable, please justify any literature values or testing assumptions you adopt. I expect the model to capture ply orientations, resin properties and adhesive joints so the unique behaviour of the carbon-fiber laminate is reflected accurately.
Deliverables • Validated FEA model with boundary and loading definitions • Crack-growth life predictions for at least the 10 most critical locations, accompanied by sensitivity checks on load spectrum and material scatter • A well-structured report (PDF + editable source) that documents methodology, governing equations, mesh independence, verification steps and design recommendations • Native files for any software used (e.g., ANSYS Workbench, Abaqus, MATLAB scripts) so results can be reproduced internally
Acceptance criteria • Stress-intensity or energy-release rate convergence better than 5 % • Life predictions benchmarked against at least one published study or test datum • All input data and assumptions traceable and clearly cited
If something in the brief is unclear, feel free to suggest a better practice; otherwise, I am ready to review your proposed workflow and schedule so we can get started.
