Cabinet & Countertop Estimating Assistance
Description
I run a commercial cabinet and countertop shop and regularly receive drawing sets and specification books that must be turned into clear, accurate cost estimates. The bulk of our work revolves around Wood and Laminate casework, so quantities, grades, edging, and finish schedules for those two materials need to be captured precisely. From time to time a plan may call for solid-surface tops or specialty items, but the primary focus remains on the wood- and laminate-based scope.
What I supply • PDF plans, elevations, and sections • Any bid forms or unit-price pages required by the GC
What I need back
- A completed take-off showing sheet references, lineal footage, square footage, and hardware counts.
- A unit-cost or lump-sum estimate in my existing Excel template (or yours, if it is clearer).
- Notes on any ambiguities, missing information, or value-engineering opportunities you discover while reviewing the set.
Your process can be Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Excel, or another professional estimating tool—as long as the final numbers can be easily audited and traced to the drawings.
Turnaround is typically three to five days after I send the documents, though larger sets may warrant a mutually agreed extension. Accuracy and clarity are more important than speed; the estimate must stand up to GC review without extensive revision.
If you have experience interpreting architectural drawings for commercial millwork and translating them into well-structured cost breakdowns, this will be a straightforward, ongoing collaboration.
