Job Description

Papertree Studio is seeking a thoughtful, detail-oriented Junior Graphic Designer to join our South Jersey studio. This role is ideal for someone early in their design career who is passionate about print, stationery, and the physical craft of production — not just digital design. This position is a hybrid of creative design support and hands-on production, offering the opportunity to learn the full lifecycle of custom stationery from concept through final assembly. Papertree Studio is a boutique design studio specializing in custom event stationery, wedding invitations, branding collateral, and print production. We are known for our refined, editorial approach and our deep understanding of materials, printing techniques, and production logistics.

Requirements

  • Degree in Graphic Design or related field preferred
  • 1–3 years design experience (internships count)
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Understanding of typography, layout, and composition
  • Interest in print production and physical materials
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Responsibilities

Design Support

  • Assist with invitation suite layouts and stationery design
  • Support production of comps and presentation materials for clients
  • Prepare press-ready files under senior designer direction
  • Make revisions and file updates with strong attention to typography and alignment
  • Assist with illustration cleanup and simple artwork preparation
  • Support website updates (Squarespace experience a plus)

Production + Studio Work

  • Pre-press file preparation and proofing
  • Printing, cutting, foiling, and basic machinery operation (training provided)
  • Assembly of invitation suites and event materials
  • Quality control review of printed goods
  • Packaging orders and preparing shipments
  • Creating sample packs for prospective clients
  • Assisting with studio organization and materials inventory

Operations Support

  • Preparing mailings and assisting with invitation fulfillment
  • Running occasional studio errands or venue deliveries
  • Updating project timelines and internal calendars
  • Supporting general studio workflow as needed

Bonus Experience (not required)

  • Print production or pre-press experience
  • Knowledge of printing methods (letterpress, foil, embossing)
  • Experience with laser cutters or production equipment
  • Squarespace experience
  • Stationery or wedding industry experience

Position Details

  • Part-time freelance position (approximately 10–25 hours/week depending on season)
  • On-site in our South Jersey studio (some remote design work possible)
  • Flexible schedule within studio working hours
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Hourly rate based on experience
