Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Technician

Location: Port of Leith

Compensation: Anticipated earnings £40,000+

Overtime rate: 2x rate on weekends (10pm Friday to 6am Monday) | 1.5x rate midweek

Hours: Monday-Friday XXX-XXX-XXXX (we are keen to consider alternative working patterns)

In addition, you will be on-call 1 week in 4, with additional payment per call-out.

About The Role

In this role, you will be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining all plant equipment and electrical systems to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The position plays a key part in minimising equipment downtime, supporting operational teams, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and company standards.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintenance, repair and fault finding of electrical systems within the Port; including forklift trucks, ship to shore cranes, industrial plant, lock date infrastructure and commercial vehicles
  • Installation and maintenance of LV electrical distribution systems, lighting systems and control circuits in both industrial and commercial areas of the port
  • Developing an in depth working knowledge of plant equipment and associated drawings in order to minimise downtime when repairs are required
  • Escalating any equipment damage to Supervisory staff and liaise with operational staff to inform of timescales for repairs
  • Implementing best practice maintenance techniques to improve reliability efficiency
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings to ensure equipment is maintained for efficient plant operation.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced and reliable Electrician with a strong industrial background who takes pride in delivering high-quality work while helping to develop and support a growing team of electricians and apprentices.

This role is ideal for someone who not only has strong technical ability, but also enjoys sharing their knowledge, setting standards, and leading by example on-site. You will play a key role in maintaining high levels of workmanship, safety, and professionalism across the team.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a heavy industrial environment, have excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach to minimising downtime. Just as importantly, you will be confident supporting and guiding less experienced team members, helping them improve and work to a high standard.

As the role supports operational continuity, flexibility is essential. You should be willing to work overtime when required and participate in an on-call rota to respond to urgent needs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Served a formal recognised electrical apprenticeship
  • Previous experience working in a mentorship role is advantageous.
  • Previous experience of working within an industrialised environment is advantageous but not essential
  • Ideally will have a working knowledge of AC/DC control systems, PLC’s and LV distribution
  • Experience of working on mobile plant would be desirable but not essential
  • Shows strong initiative in managing tasks independently and driving work forward
  • Confident communicator and be able to develop good working relationships with all stakeholders across the business
  • As our working environment comprises quaysides, warehouses and other Port buildings therefore the ability to work at height, in confined spaces and in an outdoors environment is essential
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Full right to work in the UK
