Description

Senior.NET Developer needed to support and enhance an energy companies existing application estate. The work is backend-heavy: complex data models, systems integration, API development, and data migration. The developer will take ownership of business-critical applications and must be able to ramp up quickly.

The role sits within a team of 23 across Development, QA, and App Support. A fast start is essential, we need someone who can hit the ground running.

Essential Technical Skills:

  • C# /.NET Core — complex backend systems (10+ years)
  • Azure — Functions, Web Apps, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines
  • SQL Server & database design — data modelling, schema migrations, production deployments
  • Entity Framework (EF) Core — migrations, code-first approaches
  • Web APIs / RESTful services — design, versioning, backward compatibility
  • Microservices architecture — service design, inter-service communication, resilience patterns
  • CI/CD — YAML pipelines, multi-environment deployments, IaC (Terraform)
  • Git — branching strategies in a team environment
  • Desirable:
  • Message queuing (RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus)
  • React or Angular front-end capability
  • ETL / data integration experience
  • TDD / automated testing practices
  • experience & Attributes:
  • Self-managing — must hit the ground running
  • Complex data systems — large data models, integration layers, or operational data stores
  • Energy / Utilities sector — highly desirable
  • Technical leadership — mentoring junior developers, establishing standards
  • Comfortable with ambiguity — evolving requirements, cross-team dependencies
  • Strong communicator — able to articulate risks and decisions to non-technical stakeholders

Working Arrangements:

  • Hybrid: Manchester office 2-3 days/week (non-negotiable)
  • Agile/Scrum, bi-weekly sprints
  • Modern tooling including GitHub Copilot, Azure-native stack
