Mid-Level Developer & Scrum Master (60/40 Split)

Location: London / Hybrid (3 days in office)

Contract: 3‑month initial contract, rolling thereafter

About the Role

Our Client is embarking on a greenfield technology initiative to build modern, scalable, secure platforms that will support its growing financial services operations. We are looking for a Mid-Level Developer with strong backend engineering experience and a solid understanding of modern containerised environments.

This role is uniquely split between 60% hands-on development and 40% Scrum Master responsibilities, supporting delivery within a small, agile engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

Development (60%)

• Design, build, and maintain backend services using Python within a microservices architecture.
• Develop and deploy containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Work with Apache Airflow to build and maintain workflow orchestration pipelines.
• Support data engineering tasks using Apache Iceberg as part of the wider data platform.
• Implement secure development practices aligned with DevSecOps principles.
• Collaborate with architects and stakeholders to contribute to technical design discussions in a greenfield environment.
• Ensure code quality through testing, code reviews, and documentation.

Scrum Master Duties (40%)

• Facilitate daily stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
• Serve as a bridge between product, engineering, and wider business teams to maintain clear communication and alignment.
• Remove impediments and support continuous improvement within the team.
• Champion agile principles and support best practices across the team.
• Track progress, report delivery status, and help maintain a predictable sprint cadence.

Required Skills & experience

• Strong commercial experience with Python for backend/server-side development.
• Hands-on experience with microservices architecture.
• Strong knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for containerised deployments.
• experience building or maintaining workflows using Apache Airflow.
• Familiarity with Apache Iceberg or similar big-data table formats (e.g., Delta Lake, Hudi).
• Understanding of DevSecOps practices and secure coding standards.
• Prior experience as a Scrum Master or in a hybrid technical/leadership role.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, greenfield environments.
• Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management.

Nice to Have

• experience working in financial services or regulated environments.
• Exposure to cloud-native tools (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling.
• Relevant Agile/Scrum certifications.
