SEN Teaching Assistant - SEMH & Behaviour Support

This specialist setting in South Shields supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. It’s a school where relationships come first, routines matter, and every adult plays a key role in helping pupils feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.

If you’re someone who can stay calm in the storm and see the child behind the behaviour, you’ll fit right in.

Role overview: You’ll support pupils who may need additional help managing emotions, behaviour and engagement with learning. Working alongside teachers and pastoral teams, you’ll help create a consistent, supportive environment that helps pupils re-engage with education.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group SEMH support
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour strategies
  • Help pupils build confidence, resilience and positive relationships
  • Use de-escalation techniques and consistent routines
  • Encourage engagement in lessons and structured activities
  • Work closely with staff to implement behaviour support plans

Requirements:

  • Experience with SEMH, behaviour support, youth work or similar is ideal
  • A resilient, patient and nurturing approach
  • Ability to build trust and remain calm under pressure
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
