Caretaker
Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out daily site checks to ensure the school building and grounds are safe, secure, and well maintained.
- Perform general maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, fixing fixtures, replacing light bulbs, and basic DIY work.
- Maintain outdoor areas, including gardening,
- Act as a key holder, responsible for opening the school.
- Keep the site clean and presentable, including pressure washing external areas and cleaning internal and external windows.
- Support school operations by moving furniture, setting up rooms, and managing deliveries.
- Assist with deep-cleaning tasks during school holidays, such as pulling up carpets, machine-cleaning floors, and preparing rooms for refurbishment.
- Ensure all compliance checks are completed, including fire alarm tests, emergency lighting checks, water temperature monitoring, and playground inspections.
- Safely use and store tools, equipment, and chemicals in line with school policies and statutory requirements.
- Follow all health, safety, and safeguarding procedures to maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or facilities role, ideally within a school or educational setting.
- A good understanding of maintenance procedures, site compliance tasks, and COSHH regulations.
- Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving abilities.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Willingness to work during school holidays to carry out essential deep-cleaning and maintenance tasks.
Additional Details:
Job Type: Temporary for approximately 1 year, potentially longer
Location: Accrington
Days: Monday to Friday
Hours: Mon to Thurs 6:30am-8am, & Friday's 6:30am-10am
Hourly Rate: £12.71ph to £13.50ph
