Mechanical Technician (Pump Strip & Rebuild)
Contract: 12-month PAYE (covering secondment, strong potential to go permanent)
Pay: £22.97 per hour (PAYE)
Hours: Core 8:00–16:00 with flexible working and ad-hoc overtime
Start: Interviews ASAP / Start ASAP
Location: Chorley
Role Overview
You will be responsible for the full strip-down, inspection, rebuild, and testing of submersible pumps, motors, and gearboxes. This is a hands-on workshop-based role involving mechanical work with some basic electrical testing. All tools and equipment are provided.
Key Responsibilities
Strip, inspect, clean, and rebuild submersible pumps (ABS, Flygt, NOV, Zylam etc.)
Dismantle and rebuild motors and gearboxes (repair, not maintenance)
Carry out mechanical repairs and component replacements
Perform testing of pumps and motors after rebuild
Complete spray cleaning and preparation of components
Conduct light electrical testing where required
Maintain accurate job records and basic IT entries
Work safely and efficiently within a busy engineering workshop environment
Skills & Experience Required
Level 3 qualification in Mechanical, Automotive, Pump Engineering or similar
OR time-served mechanical engineer with relevant workshop experience
Strong mechanical background with experience in strip & rebuild work
Ability to work with submersible pumps, motors, gearboxes, and rotating equipment
Basic electrical knowledge and ability to complete minor electrical tests
Confident working with workshop tools and equipment
Good attention to detail with a methodical approach
Desirable
Experience with brands such as ABS, Flygt, Zylam, NOV
Previous experience in Central Engineering / MR Engineering / Eriks-style workshops
Understanding of pump testing procedures
