This is a genuinely interesting in-house opportunity for a qualified employment lawyer who wants to move beyond private practice and make a meaningful impact - advising at a strategic level, building internal capability, and handling a broad and complex caseload.
The Role
You'll provide expert legal advice on the full spectrum of employment law matters, including discrimination, whistleblowing, unfair dismissal, pay disputes, TUPE, restructures, and disciplinary processes. Beyond advisory work, you'll contribute to policy development, deliver internal training, and support the upskilling of HR and people teams to build lasting in-house legal capability.
What You'll Be Doing
- Advising on complex employment law matters and supporting informed decision-making at senior levels
- Conducting legal research into new legislation and case law, and translating this into practical guidance
- Drafting and reviewing employment-related documents including policies, contracts, and agreements
- Preparing tribunal updates, reports, and briefing papers with clear legal recommendations
- Delivering training to internal leaders and people teams on employment law and risk management
- Maintaining accurate legal records and contributing to governance and continuous improvement
What We're Looking For
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with a valid practising certificate
- Minimum 5 years' experience handling Employment Tribunal cases, ideally from a Respondent or predominantly Respondent practice
- Experience in or exposure to public sector or unionised working environments is advantageous
- Strong drafting and advocacy skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal matters clearly to non-legal stakeholders
- Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and work independently under pressure
