Financial Controller

HB Partners is working with a thriving multi-academy trust who are seeking a Financial Controller to manage the day to day running of the finance team and support the CFO. The Role

As the Financial Controller you will lead the day-to-day operations of the finance function, ensuring high standards of financial management, control, and reporting across a multi-site organisation. You’ll play a pivotal role in both operational excellence and shaping strategic financial practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the finance team, ensuring effective performance and development
• Oversee month-end processes, including reconciliations, adjustments, and consolidated management accounts
• Strengthen financial controls, policies, and procedures in line with best practice
• Partner with senior leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and performance monitoring
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including financial reporting, tax, and regulatory obligations
• Maintain integrity of financial systems and internal control frameworks
• Support the preparation of statutory accounts and returns, ensuring deadlines and compliance standards are met
• Manage cash flow forecasting and banking relationships
• Oversee supplier payments and financial record accuracy
• Contribute to organisational growth initiatives, including onboarding new entities
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure consistent financial processes
• Stay informed of sector developments and evolving financial regulations

About You

• Proven experience in a finance operations or leadership role
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial control expertise
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams
• Previous experience of working in a multi-academy trust or school
• Confident communicating financial information to non-finance stakeholders
