Your new company You will work for a mufti entity media business that helps organisations understand people and the world around them, using research and strategic thinking to guide better decisions and shape future plans.

Your new role This Assistant Accountant job is being offered on a 14 month FTC basis (maternity cover contract), commencing ASAP. You will work in a finance team of five people and your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Support the monthly close process by assisting the Senior Management Account with the preparation of monthly management accounts for the main business and other entities.
  • Check that all underlying schedules and records are accurate, up-to-date, and properly reconciled.
  • Review cash activity, balance sheet movements, and inter-company positions to ensure everything ties out.
  • Monitor key balance sheet areas such as fixed assets, staff loans, and outstanding customer and supplier balances.
  • Look over project and job-level financials for overseas teams to confirm they reflect actual performance.
  • Prepare regular performance summaries for subsidiaries, highlighting trends and variances.
  • Contribute to short-term cash planning by updating and reviewing forecast inputs.
  • Maintain asset records for group entities, ensuring additions, disposals, and depreciation are correctly captured.
  • Assist with tax-related tasks by preparing figures and checks needed for periodic submissions.
  • Work with the wider finance team during the annual audit and tax cycle to provide information and resolve queries.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Immediate availability or short notice period (highly desirable)
  • Previous experience working in the media sector (preferred but not essential)
  • Experience assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts - prepayments, accruals, balance sheet reconciliation, fixed assets, intercompany and cashbook reconciliation
  • A collaborative approach and experience working in a small finance team (SME company background)
  • Experience in system migration is desirable but not essential.
  • Paprika system experience (desirable, not essential)
  • Deadline driven with strong time management skills
  • Strong academic record and ideally studying towards an accounting qualification
