Pastoral Mentor - Barking & Dagenham

In Barking & Dagenham, schools are full of potential, personality and resilience. But for some students, education isn't straightforward.
That's where you come in.
We're looking for a Pastoral Mentor who understands that behaviour is communication and that consistency changes outcomes.
What you'll actually be doing:
- Supporting students 1:1 who are at risk of exclusion or disengagement
- Helping pupils regulate emotions and rebuild confidence
- Working closely with safeguarding, SEN and senior leadership teams
- Supporting attendance, punctuality and behaviour improvement plans
- Being a calm, steady presence in moments of crisis
The young people need someone who:
- Is firm, fair and emotionally intelligent
- Doesn't take behaviour personally
- Can build trust without lowering standards
- Understands SEMH, trauma-informed practice or challenging environments
- Brings resilience, humour and patience in equal measure
Ideal backgrounds:
- Youth work
- Behaviour mentoring
- Psychology or criminology graduates
- Support work
- PRU or alternative provision experience
- Sports coaching with mentoring experience
