Location: Manchester

  • NEW CAF Rail Overhaul Facility (Lowry Park) Contract: 12-Month FTC Hours: 08:00–16:00, Monday–Friday Salary: £42,000

CAF Rail UK is seeking a hands-on Engineering****Technician who’s ready to transition into a training-focused role. Perfect for someone with a Level 3 engineering qualification who enjoys explaining how things work, supporting others, and wants to move into a more people-focused technical career.

No previous training experience is required — full development and support are provided.

This role is based at the brand-new CAF overhaul facility in Manchester, working alongside experienced engineers and the Training & Competence team.

The Role (In a Nutshell)

You’ll stay close to real engineering work, capturing technical knowledge from overhaul teams and turning it into clear, engaging training content. Over time, you’ll develop the skills to support and eventually deliver training sessions.

Ideal for a Technician who enjoys engineering but wants to grow into a role focused on communication, IT and people development.

Key Responsibilities

Training Content

  • Capture overhaul tasks and turn them into structured training materials
  • Produce presentations, diagrams and technical documentation
  • Support creation of digital resources (e-learning, video, graphics)

Training Delivery Support

  • Assist senior trainers in planning and delivering sessions
  • Prepare rooms, tools, simulators and digital content
  • Support learners and respond to technical questions

Engineering Knowledge Capture

  • Work closely with overhaul and engineering teams
  • Attend technical meetings and update training content accordingly

Who This Role Suits

Essential:

  • Level 3 qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, Rail, Automotive or similar)
  • Hands-on Technician experience
  • Strong IT skills (especially PowerPoint)
  • Confident communicator with an interest in helping others
  • Organised, curious and keen to develop as a trainer
