**SQL Database Administrator
- 3-month contract
- Fully remote**
We are currently supporting a customer who is looking to appoint an experienced SQL DBA to take full ownership of their database estate across the business.
The organisation operates a legacy mainframe system that is now out of support. While it is currently stable, there is a clear business risk, and they require a proactive DBA to manage, assess and future-proof their database environment.
Key Skills required from the SQL DBA:
- Microsoft SQL Server administration (multiple versions)
- Performance tuning, indexing, query optimisation and troubleshooting
- Database version upgrades and consolidation projects
- Backup, recovery and high availability strategies
- Working within complex or legacy environments
- Ownership of database strategy and continuous improvement
Key responsibilities of the SQL DBA:
- Full ownership and management of all SQL databases across the organisation
- Performance tuning and optimisation across the entire database estate
- Conducting a full discovery of existing databases, configurations and dependencies
- Identifying risks, inconsistencies and improvement opportunities
- Standardising database versions across the environment
- Implementing upgrades, patches and structural improvements
- Ensuring resilience, stability and best practice database governance
- Supporting business-critical systems and mitigating risk within the legacy estate
