Interim Financial Controller (Central Finance - Overheads, 12-month fixed term)
Lead a critical area of central finance and shape smarter ways of working.
About the role
We are looking for an Interim Financial Controller to join our Central Finance team, with responsibility for overheads across our centralised practices (excluding rent and rates). This is a 12-month fixed term role where you will lead a team of Overheads Accountants, take ownership of key balance sheet areas, and help strengthen and develop systems and processes for accounting for overheads. Based at Spitfire House in York, you will play an important part in ensuring accurate reporting, clear insight, and robust processes that support the wider business.
What you will be doing
- Leading and developing a team of management accountants responsible for overheads across centralised practices.
- Ownership of the balance sheet accounts for accruals and prepayments for overheads.
- Reviewing monthly overheads P&L, investigating variances and providing clear, practical commentary.
- Ensuring centrally recharged costs are correctly accounted for and understood.
- A major part of the role will be responsibility for utilities and fleet costs.
- Working closely with the Operations Team and external fleet and utilities providers to resolve queries.
- Building new processes across the wider finance team

- Supporting the migration of newly centralised practices into the central finance model.
What we are looking for
Essential
- Fully qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA or ACCA).
- Experience in the finance function of a large, multi-site organisation.
- Proven experience managing and reviewing the work of management accountants.
- Strong background in monthly management accounts review and sign-off
- Evidence of building or improving financial processes, using existing systems and tools.
- Ability to evidence interrogating and manipulating large sets of data
Nice to have
- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
- Experience supporting or performing financial audits.
