Your new company A large public sector organisation is seeking a Strategic Planning Manager to strengthen how it understands, tracks and communicates progress against its strategic priorities. This is a role where your ability to analyse information, challenge constructively and bring clarity to senior leaders will have a direct impact.
Your new role You will take ownership of reviewing and interpreting updates from a portfolio of major projects, ensuring the information provided is accurate, consistent and meaningful. A key focus will be testing the quality of project reporting, identifying gaps, and helping senior stakeholders understand risks, issues and dependencies. You'll turn varied and sometimes complex information into clear, high-level insight that supports senior decision-making and provides a reliable view of progress against strategic aims.Alongside this, you'll support the organisation's planning activity by coordinating timelines, maintaining documentation and helping teams work to shared standards. You'll also guide colleagues on how to improve the clarity and quality of their reporting, offering constructive challenge and practical support. This role centres on strategic analysis, portfolio oversight and organisational assurance rather than hands-on project delivery.
What you'll need to succeed
- Experience working with project or programme information at a portfolio level
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to turn complex or inconsistent information into clear insight
- Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and challenging constructively
- Experience supporting planning or performance processes in a complex organisation
- Ability to maintain and improve documentation, templates and guidance
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams
- Experience or understanding of project management methodology
- Ideally PRINCE2 certified (or similar project management qualification)
