Description

We are seeking 3x VMware & Automation Engineer to lead automated VM lifecycle management and infrastructure provisioning within a large-scale, secure environment. This role focuses on building efficient, reliable, and automated workflows on top of our existing VMware platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong VMware engineering skills with Automation/IaC expertise to ensure consistent, scalable, and compliant VM operations.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and optimise automated VM provisioning and lifecycle workflows using PowerCLI, VMware Aria, APIs, and IaC tooling.Define and improve automation approaches for VM creation, configuration, retirement, scaling, monitoring, and policy enforcement.Evaluate and recommend tooling choices (e.g., PowerCLI, Aria Automation, Terraform, Ansible) based on VMware-native features, security requirements, and operational efficiency.Manage and optimise VM operations across vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and integrated VMware platforms.Work closely with platform SMEs (e.g., Linux/Windows experts) to ensure their work is supported by reliable and automated VM provisioning pipelines.Support and improve VMware ecosystem components including NSX, vSAN, DRS, backup tooling, performance monitoring, and lifecycle management.Maintain accurate documentation aligned with government, audit, and security requirements.Contribute to resilience, continuity, and disaster-recovery strategies.Required Qualifications7+ years of VMware engineering experience in enterprise or government environments.Deep expertise with vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, VM lifecycle operations, and VMware best practices.Strong automation experience with PowerCLI, VMware Aria, and IaC patterns; familiarity with Terraform/Ansible in VMware contexts.Understanding of core VMware services including NSX, vSAN, DRS, snapshots, backups, and monitoring.Solid knowledge of virtual networking, storage integration, and operations in air-gapped or zero-trust environments.VMware certifications (VCP/VCAP) preferred; security certifications a plus.UK National or 5 years residencyPreferred QualificationsExperience with VMware automation frameworks (Aria Automation/Orchestrator).Familiarity with Kubernetes, container platforms, or hybrid VMware solutions in secure environments.Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
