Health and Safety Lead opportunity available on a 6 month fixed term contract basis working for a leading charity based in Howden, East Yorkshire.In this role you will be part of the OHS team, which reports to the People Director, is led by the OHS specialist and works to provide support and advice across the entire organisation.Their expectations are that you will visit sites and offices across East Yorkshire to offer advice and guidance, answering queries on OHS matters, be able to investigate an incident or undertake an audit. In addition, you will be asked to attend meetings and to consult with safety committee reps or discuss forthcoming challenging work with project managers.The role will require information and data gathering which will need to be recorded and where necessary collated and reported on in a timely manner. Documentation review will include procedures, project RAMS or risk assessments for lab work and delivering feedback via lessons learned communications form an integral part of the role. Desk-based duties include writing procedures/ safe systems of work.Responsibilities include:The role is a broad one and the following are typical responsibilitiesUndertake site inspections. Valid driving license and willingness to stay away overnight at times is essential.Carrying out incident investigation and reporting. Ensuring reports are produced to deadlines.Attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders as required, either in an advisory role or to present briefings on a specified topic.Provide best practice advice when required to staff and managers in calm and reassuring manner.Review OHS resources and documentation (including RAMS and risk assessments) to ensure they are in date and fit for purpose. Where required updating documentation.Review the effectiveness of OHS training undertaken by staff.To contribute to development of communication tools for effective dissemination of H&S information, toolbox talks, management briefs, safety alerts, etc.Champion identified OHS topics, where necessary leading working groups.Any other duties allocated by the OHS team lead or People Director.Experience required:Experience in a role where health and safety.Strong written and verbal communication skillsRelevant health and safety qualification (eg NEBOSH certificate or higher)Be able to develop positive relationships both internally and externally; communicating effectively with others to promote an open safety culture.Experience of undertaking H&S inspections/ site visits.Experience of investigating H&S incidents.Understanding of management systems (eg ISO45001) these need not be in an H&S role.Good IT skills and knowledge of Teams and WordA full UK category B driving license and willingness to drive company vehiclesIOSH membership is appropriate for the role
