Litigation Officer

Description

Responsibilities Review and proofread legal documents, agreements, and contracts, including Portfolio Management Agreements, Service Level Agreements, Lease Agreements, and other related documents. Represent the company’s interests, under supervision, during interactions with law enforcement agencies or regulatory bodies, such as the Police, NCC, or NDLEA, when required. Interpret laws, regulations, and court decisions affecting the company, and train non-legal staff on relevant compliance issues. Perform administrative tasks for the Legal Department, including drafting correspondence, taking minutes during meetings, and circulating action points. Prepare and file statutory forms for compliance with regulatory bodies, including the Corporate Affairs Commission and National Communications Commission. Stamp documents at the Federal Board of Inland Revenue and Lagos State Inland Revenue Services, and maintain statutory books, such as the Register of Members and Minute Books. Collate information, prepare reports, and ensure timely communication of action memos to relevant stakeholders. Manage litigation case files, organize court documents, and work with external solicitors on court processes, such as Statements of Claim or Defense. Contribute to creating and documenting standard operating procedures (SOPs) for legal and administrative processes. Verify and process bills of charges and handle administrative tasks for the Legal Department. Attend meetings as directed by the Legal Advisory Manager, prepare agendas, and follow up on action items. Litigation Support Monitor litigation cases involving the company, hold watching briefs, and organize court documents under the guidance of senior legal staff. Work with external solicitors to prepare and review court documents, such as Statements of Claim, Defense, or Counterclaims. Process Improvement Propose ideas to improve legal and administrative processes and document SOPs for departmental activities. Legal/Administrative Support Collaborate with the Legal Team and other departments on administrative tasks. Serve as a support administrative officer for the Legal Department, managing routine tasks and documentation. Knowledge/Experience Minimum of 4 years post call legal experience, preferably with exposure to a law firm or corporate legal environment. Basic understanding of Nigerian laws and regulations. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks. Effective communication skills for interacting with team members and external stakeholders. Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Commitment to a culture of service excellence. Qualifications Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) Barrister at Law (BL)
