Electrical and Solar Technician

Main purpose of job: The individual will safely perform electrical installations, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, fault finding, design, construction and inspection & test to Low Voltage (LV) equipment & installations across the British High Commission Estate in accordance with Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) guidance and standards. The individual is expected to conduct themselves professionally and uphold the highest standards of electrical installation and safety in all aspects of their work. This role is critical in maintaining the operational reliability and safety of electrical and solar systems throughout the estate. Roles and responsibilities: Electrician Duties (60%) Carry out planned maintenance, refurbishment works, electrical projects, and respond to electrical faults and breakdowns in a timely and customer focused manner. Execute all electrical works safely and in line with FCO quality standards, industry best practice, British Standards, and applicable Kenyan electrical regulations for LV domestic, commercial, and light industrial installations. · Take ownership of electrical tasks and projects assigned to them by the team lead, including repairs, testing, and reporting, ensuring accurate and timely completion. Perform electrical testing and produce relevant documentation, including Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and Electrical Installation Certificates. · Support colleagues by sharing technical expertise in electrical design, installation, inspection, and testing. Actively demonstrate and encourage peers in maintaining safe working practices. Working with the head of electrical team, help identify required materials and prepare work packages for refurbishments, improvements, rewires, and compliance upgrades to meet FCO standards, BS 7671, and Kenyan regulations. Solar Technician Duties
- 20% Inspect and monitor system performance, checking all PV modules, inverters, wiring, and overall energy output. Troubleshoot and maintain grid‑tie inverters, including reading fault codes and replacing faulty units. Perform electrical maintenance by testing AC/DC wiring, grounding, and protective devices. Inspect and clean solar panels, checking for damage, hotspots, and shading issues. · Ensure safety compliance, verifying structural integrity, protections, and adherence to electrical regulations. · Conduct diagnostic tests using tools like multimeters, IV tracers, thermal cameras, and insulation testers. Carry out corrective maintenance, replacing damaged components and resolving communication or performance issues. Liaise with technical & non-technical colleagues to provide updates on works progress in a suitable language that is understood by all parties. Health and Safety Compliance and Driving (10%): Support the Health & Safety Officer/Team Leader in conducting risk assessments and ensuring compliance for property-related works.
