IT Team Leader - Perm - Educational Trust

Full-Time | 37 hours per week

Location: 5 day onsite at St Albans

Salary: £39,152-£41,771 + 27 days holiday plus bank holidays

We're seeking a proactive and technically strong IT Team Leader to oversee multi-site IT operations and ensure the smooth running of essential systems within a busy school environment.

About the Role

You'll lead the day-to-day performance of IT services across both primary and secondary school settings, ensuring systems are resilient, reliable, and fit for purpose. Acting as the senior technical escalation point, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining infrastructure, supporting key school activities, and driving service improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily IT operations and ensure excellent service delivery
  • Manage incidents, service requests, and major issue resolution
  • Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders during disruptions
  • Provide technical leadership across networks, systems, and end-user devices
  • Support and maintain a wide range of technologies including PCs, Apple devices, printers, displays, telephony, and network infrastructure
  • Proactively monitor alerts and resolve issues (eg, firewalls, backups, email quarantines)
  • Liaise with third-party suppliers to ensure timely issue resolution
  • Line manage IT Technician(s), including supervision, workload allocation, and professional development
  • Lead and support local IT projects from conception to completion
  • Maintain clear and accurate operational documentation
  • Contribute to ongoing improvement of IT systems, processes, and service delivery

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience managing IT support staff or technicians
  • Strong technical capability across enterprise IT environments
  • Ability to resolve complex technical issues and act as a senior escalation point
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server, Active Directory, Windows, Apple OS, networking, backups, wireless, certificates, endpoint management, and Microsoft 365/Entra
  • Experience working in environments with SLAs or high operational expectations
  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions
  • Customer-focused, professional, and calm when handling complex issues
  • Experience with iOS devices is an advantage
  • Experience with virtualisation, disaster recovery, and business continuity is desirable
  • Must be able to drive to visit other sites
