SC-Cleared Service Designer - Contract - Outside IR35

Contract: 6 months Location: Fully Remote Day Rate: £500 per day (Outside IR35) Clearance: Active SC (Security Check) clearance required About the Role We are seeking an experienced Service Designer with valid SC clearance to support a high-impact public-sector project. The successful candidate will work across multidisciplinary teams to design end-to-end services that are user-centred, efficient, and aligned to government standards. This is a fully remote assignment requiring someone who can work autonomously while collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and iteration of end-to-end services across multiple touchpoints and channels. Conduct qualitative and quantitative user research to understand user needs, pain points, and desired outcomes. Map current and future-state service blueprints, workflows, and processes. Work closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, UX Designers, Developers and policy teams to ensure holistic service delivery. Facilitate workshops, discovery sessions, and co-design activities with stakeholders. Ensure service solutions comply with GDS (Government Digital Service) standards and accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.1 AA). Translate insights into clear documentation, prototypes, and artefacts. Provide recommendations to improve service performance, efficiency, and user satisfaction. Support discovery, alpha, beta and live phases as required. Communicate complex concepts simply and effectively to diverse audiences. Essential Skills & Experience Active SC Clearance (minimum). Proven experience as a Service Designer within public sector or highly regulated environments. Strong understanding of user-centred design, service design methodologies, and systems thinking. Demonstrated experience working within GDS frameworks. Ability to create and present service blueprints, journey maps, process diagrams, and research insights. Experience conducting and synthesising user research. Excellent stakeholder engagement skills at all levels. Ability to work autonomously and manage workloads in a remote setting. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Desirable Skills Experience working on digital transformation initiatives. Knowledge of agile delivery methods (Scrum, Kanban). Background in UX, business analysis, or organisational change. Familiarity with prototyping tools (eg, Miro, Figma, Lucid). Experience in complex multi-agency environments.
