Senior Network Engineer, Cisco, Palo Alto, SC or DV Cleared, is required by our government services client based near Northampton, East Midlands commutable from Milton Keynes, Bedford, Luton, Cambridge, Peterborough, North LondonHybrid working
****560 a day (umbrella) plus on call (50 weekday-100 weekend)Working in an SC Security Cleared environment. You will need to be SC or DV (developed vetting) cleared or eligible to undertake SC or DV Security ClearanceQualifications, Knowledge and Experience
Experience in support and dehighly secure environments.
Cisco Switching, Routing, Security and wireless technologies Network Protocols TCP/IP, BGP, ICMP, OSPF, IPSEC
Cisco ASA Firewall Administration and design
Cisco Firepower ( NGFW)
Palo Alto Firewall administration
Knowledge of Virtual Environments and virtual network solutions,(ie VMWare)
Experience in Cisco ISE and PRIME
BIG IP F5 Administration / Configuration - LTM, ASMNetwork Monitoring PRTG
Cisco ACI
Azure / AWS experience
Desirable:
Experience of working within a variety of ITIL4 environments.
Knowledge of IT Service Management toolsets ie ServiceNowKey performance reporting and documentation;
Stakeholder Management;
Leadership skills;
Experience of working in Government Sector
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for deg, implementing, securing, and maintaining enterprise network infrastructure with a focus on high availability, performance, and resilience. This role provides advanced technical leadership across routing, switching, Firewall administration, and network security operations.
The engineer serves as an escalation point for complex issues involving Cisco switching platforms, Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD), and Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls, ensuring the network reliably supports business operations.
The scope includes:
Enterprise LAN/WAN design, optimization, and life cycle management
Firewall, IPS/IDS, and network security policy managementAdvanced troubleshooting of network performance, connectivity, and security issues
Leading network modernization, migration, and automation initiatives
Ensuring compliance with security frameworks and organizational standards
Collaboration with cross-functional IT teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions
