Data Protection Lead/ Lead/Advisor for Digital and AI/ML Projects
Contract Duration: 6 months
Day Rate: £650/day (Inside IR35)
Location: Mainly remote with occasional travel (1-2 days per month in London)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Lead/ Advisor to join a small, dynamic team at the heart of AI and Digital innovation within government. This is a unique opportunity to shape and data protection practices in cutting-edge projects involving Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Digital transformation.
You'll work within a small, collaborative team driving AI and digital innovation in government, ensuring and compliance are Embedded at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and risk assessments.
- Maintain and review Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs).
- Develop and implement policies, standards, and process documentation aligned with and the Data Protection Act.
- Provide expert advice on by Design principles for digital services.
- Support governance frameworks and ensure compliance across AI and digital initiatives.
Essential Skills Experience
- Proven experience in data protection and advisory roles within public sector/government.
- Strong knowledge of, Data Protection Act, and related regulations.
- Expertise in AI/ML and digital environments.
- Hands-on experience with: DPIAs, Risk assessment, ROPAs, Policy and standards development.
- Data governance experience.
- Ability to take a pragmatic approach to challenges in innovative projects.
Qualifications (Highly Desirable)
- CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT, or equivalent certifications.
- Demonstrated experience in by Design and digital transformation projects.
