MECHANICAL SUPERINTENDENT – Mmg / Khoemacau Copper Mining

The Mechanical Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing mechanical engineering and maintenance operations within a project context, ensuring that mechanical equipment within construction and processing plant projects at MMG-Khoemacau meets project specifications, safety, and reliability standards. This includes supervising maintenance teams, managing equipment maintenance activities, and ensuring equipment reliability and integrity to support successful project outcomes and efficient ongoing operations. Key Responsibilities Leading the mechanical design of new processing plant equipment (e.g., Crushers, mills, flotation cells, conveyors, pumps, etc.). Conducting mechanical engineering input for trade-off-studies (e.g., Plant location, equipment selection, modular vs. stick-built installations). Coordinating between process, electrical, and civil teams to ensure cohesive plant design. Ensuring adherence to applicable codes (e.g., ASME, ISO, SANS, etc.) and corporate standards. Defining access requirements and maintainability features during early design to support life of mine (LOM) operations. Reviewing and approving mechanical QA/QC documentation. Mentoring of Graduate Engineers (Botswana Citizens) for knowledge and skills transfer. Reviewing and validating mechanical engineering deliverables from consultants/EPCM teams (e.g., P&IDs, pump curves, valve schedules, instrumentation tie-ins). Optimizing pipeline routing, material selection (e.g., HDPE-lined carbon steel), wall thickness, and pressure rating for static and dynamic loads. Reviewing and approving mechanical QA/QC documentation and witnessing tests. Requirements Degree in Mechanical Engineering 8 years post qualification experience in maintaining mining equipment. Demonstrated proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMM). Proficient in maintenance and production management, People Management Skills. A valid class B driver's license and good driving record is a must for all positions.
