The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading NGOs, with a focus on responding to displacement, have been registered in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, and White Nile. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.

POSITION PROFILE

Under the direct supervision of the Protection Manager and with technical support from the Protection Information Management (PIM) Specialist, the Protection Information Management Officer in North Darfur is responsible for supporting the overall quality and consistency of protection-related data management across DRC’s projects. The PIM Officer plays a key role in ensuring effective collection, analysis, and sharing of protection information in line with professional standards and data protection principles. The position contributes to the maintenance and enhancement of PIM tools and systems, providing technical support to project implementation teams to improve the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of protection data and reporting. The PIM Officer will further support the Protection Manager and PIM Specialist in strengthening data management processes to facilitate evidence-based protection programming, inform advocacy, and measure the impact of protection interventions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Support the overall information management processes for DRC’s programmes in North Darfur, with a particular focus on Protection Information Management. - Maintain and support the assessment database; design and update data collection tools and forms for protection and related activities as needed. - Clean, compile, aggregate, and analyse assessment datasets, and develop regular (weekly/monthly) programme performance monitoring dashboards. - Produce visual materials and analytical summaries with aggregated data to support reporting, communication, and advocacy efforts. - Build the capacity of programme staff on the use of online data collection and management tools, ensuring adherence to data protection and confidentiality standards, including troubleshooting and system improvements. - Process and analyse protection data to contribute to reports, situation analyses, and other protection-related information products. - Support the Protection Manager and PIM Specialist in maintaining information management systems and ensuring timely and accurate data reporting. - Enhance staff knowledge and capacity on database use, data quality assurance, and basic data analysis techniques. - Stay updated on professional developments in information management and protection data systems by attending workshops and reviewing relevant publications. - Contribute to general information management priorities and tasks for the DRC North Darfuoffice, as assigned by the Protection Manager.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

Experience and technical competencies:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in developing assessments and using mobile data collection tools in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of data protection principles, the Protection Information Management Initiative, and compliance.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Access, with proven ability to manage and analyse large datasets.
• Demonstrated experience working with KOBO, ODK, or other humanitarian data collection and management platforms.
• Proven experience in data visualization and analysis using Power BI, Tableau, or other comparable analytics tools.
• Skilled in conducting complex data analysis and producing user-friendly reports using Excel, STATA, and/or SPSS.
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, with the ability to manage, organize, and derive insights from large quantities of data.
• Ability to design and present infographics and visual materials that make complex data accessible and easy to understand.
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, or CartoDB is an asset.
• Prior experience with a humanitarian organization or agency is desirable; experience managing protection-related databases is a strong advantage.
