Description
Responsibilities: Clinical Examination & Diagnosis: Conducting comprehensive eye exams, including slit-lamp, funduscopy, and retinal checks, to diagnose cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and infections. Medical & Surgical Treatment: Performing advanced procedures such as laser surgery (LASIK), corneal repairs, cataracts removal, and, in some cases, complex retina or pediatric surgeries. Emergency Care & Consultation: Managing urgent eye care cases, such as traumatic injuries or acute vision loss, and providing specialized consultations. Prescription & Management: Prescribing, dispensing, and fitting corrective lenses (glasses/contacts) and prescribing ophthalmic medications. Documentation & Collaboration: Maintaining accurate patient records and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of optometrists, nurses, and technicians. Patient Education: Educating patients on eye health, disease prevention, and post-operative care. Requirements: Education: A medical degree (MBBS) from an accredited institution. Training: Completion of a residency program in ophthalmology, with potential fellowship training in sub-specialties (e.g., retina, glaucoma, cataract etc). Licensure & Certification: Valid, state-specific medical license to practice medicine and certification by the relevant board (e.g., Board Certified Ophthalmologist). Skills: Exceptional hand-eye coordination for microsurgery, strong analytical skills for diagnosis, and effective communication abilities. Experience: Previous experience in a hospital, eye clinic, or surgical center setting is generally preferred. Location: Lagos and Abuja
