2D Artist for Visual Novel

Description

We are an indie game studio focused on strong visual storytelling and narrative-driven experiences with procedural mechanics. While our core team is steadily developing an RPG, we see an opportunity to launch a smaller visual novel project based on our existing expertise. We are looking for a full-time 2D Artist to focus on the visual side of the project.

The team consists of enthusiasts from different industries united by similar ideas and creative ambition. We learn by doing, openly share knowledge, and support each other’s growth.

We are looking for someone open-minded and proactive - ready not only to demonstrate strong skills, but also to expand beyond familiar territory and grow together with the team. You will work within a defined visual framework, contributing your perspective while helping us consistently deliver high-quality assets aligned with the project vision.

Create and refine 2D visual assets for the visual novel: characters, backgrounds, props, UI elements, and basic VFX.

Edit, repaint and polish AI-generated images to achieve a cohesive, production-ready visual style.

Ensure visual consistency across scenes, characters, lighting, and color palettes throughout the project.

Collaborate closely with the designer and screenwriter to translate narrative beats into strong visual moments.

Prepare layered assets (especially background and lightning) for flexible in-engine editing and scene variation.

Create simple animations typical for visual novels - such as facial expressions, subtle character gestures, background movement, and lightweight VFX.

Strong understanding of art fundamentals: composition, color theory, light, contrast, anatomy, and perspective.

Ability to adapt and maintain a defined art direction while working with AI-assisted pipelines.

Confident digital drawing skills using a graphical tablet.

Experience preparing clean, well-structured layered files for further editing or integration.

Open communication style and willingness to iterate, receive feedback, and grow within a small team.

We offer an opportunity for early-career professionals to gain hands-on experience on a fast-paced project scheduled for release on Steam via the Early Access model in early 2027. The full project is currently estimated to span 2-3 years.

We welcome long-term collaboration and encourage growth within the studio, including the possibility of transitioning to future projects as we expand.

Access to the latest version of Nano Banana (company-funded license).

Optional training in 2D skeletal animation (not mandatory).

Permission to include your work in your personal portfolio after the game’s official release.

Official employment under Croatian Labour Law, including mandatory health insurance, paid annual leave, and paid sick leave.
