ABOUT THE COMPANY Nairobi is the headquarters duty station for the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) the United Nations agency mandated with ensuring better urban future by promoting socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement sustainable development goal 11 (SDG 11). Although the mandate of UN-Habitat is global, the agency has placed special emphasis on working for the benefit of the host country through contributing to Kenya’s development priorities in a variety of ways. UN-Habitat Regional Office in Africa (ROAf) located in Nairobi, Kenya, is supporting priorities of member states and governments to achieve sustainable urban development. Implementation of Kenya programmes is carried out within the ROAf. JOB SUMMARY Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direct supervision of the Secretary to the Governing Bodies, the intern will:Support in drafting background papers, relevant documents, talking points, reports, speeches and other correspondence.Support posting meeting documents on UN-Habitat’s Governance page.Support in creating meeting links for the Governing Bodies meetingSupport in conducting research, compilation and preparation of summaries of background materials for use in preparation of reports, briefs, and speeches.Support in reviewing and updating information on the relevant websites for ease of access to Member StatesProvide support in the preparation, implementation and follow-up to consultative and other meetings, conferences and sessions of the Governing Bodies of UN-Habitat.Support in responding to general inquiries relating to governing bodies secretariateSupport in creating and updating the Member States directorySupport in updating the roadmap towards key meetingsPerform other related duties as required REQUIRED SKILLS Communication, Meeting preparation, Document and archive management, Typing and note taking REQUIRED EDUCATION Bachelor's degree
