Automated Crystal Reports Scheduler

Project-Based

Description

I need a small utility that reads an Excel control file to determine three things for each line: the Crystal Report that must run, the e-mail address that will receive the finished PDF, and the schedule string (examples: “Monday, Wednesday, Friday”, “End of month”, “1st business day”). At runtime the tool should:

  1. Parse the spreadsheet, match today’s date against each schedule rule, and launch the corresponding Crystal Report without manual intervention.
  2. Let Crystal generate the PDF, then save that file in a fixed local folder I will specify, using the pattern: _.pdf.
  3. Send the saved PDF as an attachment through Gmail’s SMTP service to the address listed in the same row of the spreadsheet. Please build this as a lightweight Windows-friendly service or scheduled task. You are free to choose the language (C#, VB.NET, Python with pywin32, etc.) as long as it can call the Crystal Reports runtime silently and handle Gmail’s authentication. Configuration items such as the Excel path, destination folder and Gmail credentials should sit in a simple settings file so I can change them without recompiling. Deliverables: • Compiled executable or script with clear setup instructions • A brief README showing how to add new schedule patterns to the Excel file and how to run or stop the scheduler Once installed I expect the process to be completely hands-off: any time the day’s schedule matches a row, the PDF arrives in the recipient’s inbox with the correct name and a copy is stored locally.
