HYDROGEOLOGIST WATER MANAGEMENT/WATER RESOURCE ENGINEER

Location/Duty Station: Benishangul-Gumuz Region, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda

• Project Site Roster: Fly-In/Fly-Out (6 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off) Employment Type: Full-Time | Site-Based The Hydrogeologist Water Management/Water Resource Engineer is required to ensure a safe, dry, and stable mining environment by controlling groundwater and surface water inflow, while maintaining regulatory compliance and environmental sustainability. Key Responsibilities: Dewatering & Depressurization:  Manage surface and underground dewatering systems (e.g., pumping wells, horizontal drains, sumps) to maintain groundwater levels below the active mining floor. Hydrogeological Modeling & Analysis:  Maintain 3D numerical, analytical, and conceptual groundwater models to predict inflow rates, simulate drawdown, and assess long-term water balance. Monitoring & Data Management:  Maintain monitoring networks (piezometers, v-notch weirs, data loggers) to track groundwater quality, quantity, and pore pressure, and prepare monthly/annual reports. Geotechnical/Slope Stability Support:  Collaborate with geotechnical teams to analyze the impact of pore pressure on pit wall stability and develop strategies to minimize slope failures. Regulatory Compliance & Permitting:  Ensure all water use, abstraction, and discharge activities comply with environmental regulations, water licenses, and company policies. Water Infrastructure Maintenance:  Run the operation, maintenance, and expansion of water-related infrastructure, including pipelines, pumps, and river diversion channels. Risk Management & Reporting:  Identify potential water-related hazards (e.g., unexpected inflows, wall failure) and provide technical reports for presentations to management. Budgeting:  Ensure adherence to operating and capital budgets for drilling, monitoring equipment, and consultants.
