Job Summary The Livelihood and Food Security Intern will support the implementation of community-level project activities aimed at improving livelihood and food security of project participants at project target. The intern is expected to support the L4R project interventions by assisting in community needs assessments, data collection, and monitoring of field-level activities such as livelihood supports, training workshops, record & maintain accurate beneficiary data, and assist project team with reporting. The intern will be based in Sidama Region, Bilate Zuria, Woreda kebeles and will work closely with community members, local leaders, and project staff to assist with field activities and community engagement. As a fresh graduate with limited practical experience, the intern will mainly support project implementation through learning-by-doing, field participation, and mentorship. Under the “supervision” of the Livelihood Officer, the intern will assist in community mobilization, basic field assessments, monitoring of project activities, and documentation of lessons learned while gaining practical experience in livelihood and food security interventions. Responsibilities Community Engagement and Participation Support community mobilization and awareness activities related to livelihood and food security Assist in facilitating community discussions and meetings with project participants. Encourage the participation of women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities in project activities. Help community members understand the basic operation and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities. Assists the project in organizing training workshops for village economic and social associations (VESA) on topics like basic business planning skills and climate-smart agriculture. Field Implementation Support Participate in field visits to project kebeles in Bilate Zuria Woreda to support ongoing activities. Assist project staff in organizing community activities related to livelihoods and food security Support the project with coordination with community committees and local stakeholders during project implementation. Livelihood and Food Security Activities Assisting in conducting community needs assessments in relation to livelihood and food security by engaging with the local government partners and community representatives. Facilitate training for targeted farmers on water and climate-smart agricultural (WCSA) practices Facilitate the process of developing rainwater harvesting structure for targeted households Support and follow up targeted households in proper application of material & technology input to practice water and climate smart agriculture (WCSA) Facilitate conducting of livelihood, market and value chain assessment to identify market-relevant alternative livelihood options Assist in the process of provision of alternative livelihood assets and input for climate smart agricultural practices Support in establishing and training VESA on selection, planning, and management (SPM) of income-generating activities (IGAs) Assist in VESA in conducting meetings sessions, setting bylaw, developing business plan, and all other related topics undertaken in VESA Participate in disability inclusion mobilization process and training on life skills focusing on their self-reliance and self-concept/esteem Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation on livelihood and food security activities Collaborate with the L4R team to monitor and follow up on livelihood and food security tasks, providing relevant assistance to project participants Adhere to Care standards for ethical service delivery, data confidentiality, and safeguarding principles. Other Duties: Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor to support the L4R project operations Monitoring, Documentation, and Learning Assist in collecting basic field data and information related to livelihood and food security activities Support preparation of simple field reports and documentation of community experiences and lessons learned. Participate in team meetings and learning sessions to share observations from the field. Other Tasks Perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor to support project implementation and learning. Gender Understanding and demonstrated commitment to the importance of gender, youth and social inclusion issues. Demonstrated commitment to principles of Gender Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and PSEAH (safeguarding), as evidenced in previous positions/programming.
