Job Summary The WASH and Climate-Smart Watershed Management Intern will support the implementation of community-level project activities aimed at improving climate-resilient watershed management and access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services for marginalized groups, particularly women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities. The intern will be based in Sidama Region, Bilate Zuria, Woreda kebeles and will work closely with community members, local leaders, and project staff to assist with field activities and community engagement. As a fresh graduate with limited practical experience, the intern will mainly support project implementation through learning-by-doing, field participation, and mentorship. Under the “supervision” of the Livelihood Officer, the intern will assist in community mobilization, basic field assessments, monitoring of project activities, and documentation of lessons learned while gaining practical experience in WASH and watershed management interventions. Responsibilities Community Engagement and Participation Support community mobilization and awareness activities related to safe water, sanitation, hygiene practices, and watershed protection. Assist in facilitating community discussions and meetings with project participants. Encourage the participation of women, youth, children, and persons with disabilities in project activities. Help community members understand the basic operation and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities. Field Implementation Support Participate in field visits to project kebeles in Bilate Zuria Woreda to support ongoing activities. Assist project staff in organizing community activities related to watershed protection and water source conservation. Support coordination with community committees and local stakeholders during project implementation. Watershed and Environmental Activities Actively participate in mapping/identifying watershed areas, analyzing resources, and developing management action plans. Support community mobilization for climate-smart watershed management activities such as water source protection and natural resource conservation. Participate in field observations and simple assessments of watershed and environmental conditions. Active participation in soil and water conservation practices to improve water efficiency and reduce erosion Support communities to treat/restore degraded communal land & forest area with biophysical measures and Argo-forestry system Participate in maintaining water reservoirs/ponds and install/rehabilitate accessible hand-washing facilities In coordination with livelihood officer & facilitator for empowerment the intern will facilitate the establishment & strengthening of watershed management committees (WMCs) & water users’ cooperative members Support other project team members in developing, implementing and evaluating inclusive, accessible community adaptation plans (CAPs) Monitoring, Documentation, and Learning Assist in collecting basic field data and information related to water access, hygiene practices, and watershed activities. Support preparation of simple field reports and documentation of community experiences and lessons learned. Participate in team meetings and learning sessions to share observations from the field. Other Tasks Perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor to support project implementation and learning. Gender  Understanding and demonstrated commitment to the importance of gender, youth and social inclusion issues. Demonstrated commitment to principles of Gender Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and PSEAH (safeguarding), as evidenced in previous positions/programming.
