HYDROGEOLOGIST TECHNICIAN/WATER RESOURCE TECHNICIAN

Location/Duty Station: Benishangul-Gumuz Region, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda

• Project Site Roster: Fly-In/Fly-Out (6 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off) Employment Type: Full-Time | Site-Based The Hydrogeologist Technician/Water Resource Technician is required to manage groundwater, monitor water quality, and support dewatering infrastructure. The role is primarily field based (at least 50%+), focusing on data collection, drilling supervision, and ensuring safe, dry mining conditions. Key Responsibilities: Field Monitoring and Data Collection:  Regularly inspects and monitors groundwater levels (piezometers, water level loggers) and surface water, including checking the integrity of sumps, drainages, and monitoring wells. Drill Rig Supervision:  Supervises hydrogeological drilling, borehole construction, and installation of dewatering wells or vibrating wire piezometers (VWPs) in collaboration with contractors. Dewatering Infrastructure Support:  Operates, maintains, and assists with the installation of pumps, pipelines, and horizontal drains to ensure effective pit dewatering and slope depressurization. Water Quality Sampling:  Collects groundwater and surface water samples for laboratory analysis to assess contamination levels and ensure environmental compliance. Data Management and Reporting:  Inputs data into hydrogeological databases (e.g., SQL, Equis, Esdat), checks data consistency, and prepares daily/monthly reports for management. Safety and Compliance:  Ensures that all hydrogeological work adheres to mine health and safety regulations (e.g., reporting, and investigating all groundwater-related incidents. Technical Support:  Assists with pump testing, tracer tests, and geophysical surveys to characterize the aquifer system.
