Backend Engineer - Java

OVERVIEW: We are looking for a driven Backend Engineer that will join the Playlist Experience squad, the team responsible for the core systems that power Client’s playlists. You will deep-dive into our playlist backend, implement new features, and ensure that our services perform and scale to meet the demands of millions of listeners.WHAT YOU’LL DO:-As a consultant in this squad, you will focus on making our systems more reliable and efficient while enabling the next generation of playlist features.-Design, develop, and deploy Java backend services, with a focus on high availability, low latency, and massive scalability.-Operate large scale distributed databases in a cloud environment (GCP).-Build and maintain data processing pipelines.-Proactively improve service performance, efficiency, and reliability, by analyzing slow paths and problematic API usage.-Implement and facilitate the rollout of new features within the playlist experience squad.-Collaborate within an autonomous, cross-functional team, taking operational responsibility for the services you build and maintain.WHO YOU ARE:-You know how to architect and design large scale distributed backend services and databases, and you have a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.-You are in the forefront of using AI tools, for efficient and effective coding.-You have experience from using Java to build high performance backend services. Additional experience with the Scala language is a strong merit.-You are experienced with modern infrastructure and cloud tools, specifically within GCP, and you are comfortable managing the full lifecycle of a service.-You have a deep understanding of distributed systems and how to diagnose performance regressions in complex, interconnected backend architectures.Start Date:   2026-02-02End Date:   2026-08-21Workplace: Sweden
