As our Test Automation Trainee, you'll immediately become a valued member of the Kalmar Digital Solutions team in Tampere. You will gain hands-on experience in quality assurance, test automation, and DevOps, contributing to state-of-the-art AWS-hosted cloud-native applications and IoT platforms. Your work will help make global trade smarter and more sustainable while supporting the growth of Kalmar's digital business.

This is a fixed-term trainee position. The trainee period and start date will be mutually agreed upon with your manager.

What are your key responsibilities:

  • Support & Automate: Develop automated test cases for AWS-hosted applications and IoT platforms, ensuring high quality and reliability.
  • Refactor & Improve: Enhance our test automation assets, including test suites, custom test libraries, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate & Learn: Work with an international team using modern software development tools and methods, exchanging ideas and gaining knowledge from experts.
  • Quality & DevOps Exposure: Gain hands-on experience with AWS services (ECS, RDS, Lambda, Glue, S3, IoT Core) and DevOps tools (Robot Framework, pytest, Locust, OWASP ZAP, Bash, Docker, Jenkins, BitBucket Pipelines, Ansible, CloudFormation, AWS CDK).
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance testing processes and contribute to a culture of innovation and excellence.

What you bring to the role:

  • Academic Background in Software Engineering or Related Field: You are currently pursuing or have completed a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, and are eager to apply your academic knowledge in a practical, hands-on environment.
  • Early Exposure & Curiosity: Previous experience from internships, student projects, or coding assignments is considered an advantage but not required - your motivation, curiosity, and willingness to learn matter most.
  • Proactive & Learning-Oriented Mindset: You bring a positive, can-do attitude and enjoy developing your skills in a dynamic, international software development and testing environment.
  • Technical & Analytical Competencies: You have proficiency or practical knowledge in programming languages such as Python or Bash, and experience with testing frameworks like Robot Framework or pytest. You have some knowledge of application development, AWS cloud technologies, and DevOps tools - or a strong interest in learning them.
  • Agile & Problem-Solving Skills: You understand the principles of agile and lean software development, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and are comfortable collaborating, influencing, and communicating effectively within a team.
