Platform Engineer (Portugal/Spain)
Description
Impressit is looking for a Platform Engineer (Databricks Administration & Data Governance) to join a cross-functional Data Platform team. This role focuses on enabling analytics and AI teams to build efficiently and securely on a shared Databricks platform. You will be responsible for defining and enforcing platform standards, ensuring data quality, governance, and cost efficiency across the organization. This is a highly impactful role where you will act as the technical owner of platform guardrails, access models, and operational stability, helping scale the platform across multiple business domains.
Candidate must be located in Portugal or Spain.
What do we expect? — 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Platform Engineering, including hands-on Databricks administration — Strong expertise in Databricks ecosystem (Unity Catalog, cluster policies, Delta Lake, Spark, jobs, workspace configuration) — Solid understanding of data governance principles, including data modeling, ingestion frameworks, schema enforcement, lineage, and versioning — Proven experience implementing access control models (RBAC, ABAC) in Databricks or similar platforms — Experience with cost management, monitoring, billing analysis, and compute optimization — Strong Python (PySpark) and SQL skills — Experience working with data pipelines and orchestration tools (e.g., DLT, Airflow, Databricks Workflows) — Ability to define standards, enforce best practices, and influence engineering teams — Strong communication and collaboration skills
What will you do? — Administer and optimize Databricks workspaces, clusters, jobs, and platform configurations — Define and enforce platform-wide data governance standards, including ingestion patterns, naming conventions, and schema rules — Implement and maintain secure access controls, including RBAC, ABAC, and fine-grained data policies — Establish and monitor data quality, lineage, and compliance across pipelines — Review and approve data pipelines to ensure alignment with platform standards — Implement cost control mechanisms, including alerts, compute policies, and usage monitoring — Analyze platform usage and proactively identify cost optimization opportunities — Ensure platform reliability through CI/CD practices, automated checks, and governance controls — Build and maintain dashboards for observability (costs, pipeline health, access, schema drift) — Troubleshoot platform issues and continuously improve stability and guardrails — Enable and guide data teams by providing best practices, templates, and documentation
As a plus: — Experience with large-scale cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) — Background in trading, supply, or other data-intensive domains — Experience building governance, cost, or operational dashboards — Familiarity with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, etc.)
