WordPress / WooCommerce Developer (High-Load E-commerce)
Description
We are looking for a Senior WordPress / WooCommerce Developer to take technical ownership of a high-load e-commerce platform serving the US & Canada market. The platform processes thousands of time-sensitive orders daily, with extreme peaks during seasonal events. Reliability, performance, and clear communication are critical.
Responsibilities Develop and maintain a high-traffic WordPress / WooCommerce platform (custom themes, plugins, core features — not just configuration). Design and evolve platform architecture with a focus on performance, scalability, and maintainability. Ensure system stability during peak loads (holidays, campaigns) via performance tuning, load testing, and controlled releases. Integrate and maintain third-party services: payment gateways, shipping providers, CRM/ERP, marketing tools. Optimize MySQL queries and database structure for large product and order volumes. Collaborate closely with Product, Marketing, Operations, and QA to align technical solutions with business needs. Break down work into clear tasks, provide realistic estimates, and proactively flag risks and dependencies. Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives. Maintain engineering standards: Git workflow, code reviews, staging environments, CI/CD, monitoring, and rollback strategies.
Requirements 5+ years of professional PHP experience, with strong hands-on work in WordPress & WooCommerce. Deep understanding of WordPress core, hooks, plugin and theme architecture. Strong WooCommerce expertise: checkout, orders, coupons, catalogs, high-volume data. Solid MySQL skills: query optimization, indexing, profiling, understanding WooCommerce performance bottlenecks. Strong OOP skills; experience with MVC and modular PHP architecture. Proven experience with high-load systems, including:Caching (object/page cache, opcode cache, Redis/Memcached) Scaling WordPress/WooCommerce across multiple servers or containers
Confident Git usage (feature branches, PRs, code reviews). Familiarity with production environments: logs, error tracking, performance monitoring, alerts. Strong English communication skills (spoken & written).
How we work Small cross-functional team (Product, Engineering, QA, Operations). Separate staging and production environments with mandatory code reviews. Controlled releases during peak periods, with rollback and post-incident analysis. Focus on long-term platform health, not short-term “ticket delivery”.
Mindset we’re looking for Ownership: you treat the platform as your product. Pragmatism: you understand trade-offs and constraints. Clear communication: you can explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders. Estimation discipline: honest timelines, early risk communication. Calm under pressure: systematic incident handling, root-cause focus.
To apply: Please send your CV and examples of high-traffic WooCommerce projects where you were directly responsible for architecture, performance, or stability.
