Mainframe Software Developer (COBOL) Location: Charlotte, NC (300 S Brevard St) Work Model: Onsite/Hybrid (per team requirements) Duration: 18-month contract Line of Business: Enterprise & Data Platforms Overview We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Software Developer to support critical enterprise banking applications within a highly regulated financial environment. This role involves working on moderately complex initiatives, contributing to large-scale planning efforts, and collaborating with cross-functional technology teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable solutions. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on expertise in COBOL and core IBM mainframe technologies, along with experience operating in Agile environments. Key Responsibilities Design, code, test, debug, and document mainframe applications Participate in moderately complex software engineering initiatives Analyze and resolve production and application issues Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to deliver enterprise solutions Ensure adherence to compliance, security, and enterprise standards Contribute to planning and modernization efforts within the mainframe environment Leverage AI tooling (e.g., Copilot) to enhance development lifecycle efficiency Required Qualifications 4+ years of software engineering experience Strong working expertise with: COBOL JCL (Job Control Language) DB2 CICS VSAM CA7 Scheduler NDM (Network Data Mover) IBM Mainframe Utilities SDSF IBM SPUFI RACF Security Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments Familiarity with AI development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot or similar) Preferred Background Experience within banking or financial services organizations Exposure to enterprise compliance and regulated environments Strong troubleshooting and production support experience Ability to clearly articulate technical experience Ideal Candidate Deep technical mainframe background Comfortable working in enterprise-scale, regulated systems Strong communicator who can collaborate across teams Open to modernization and AI-assisted development practices
