Space Systems Engineering Manager

Description

Darwin Space is currently hiring for a Senior Space Systems Engineer on behalf of a business in Luxembourg.

Responsibilities

  • Define operational and demo mission statements, including mission needs, expected performance, dependability, safety goals, and operational constraints.

  • Develop functional specifications and maintain the System Requirements Document (SRD).

  • Analyze orbital effects, optimize orbits, and perform detailed mission analyses for constellation design.

  • Investigate launch opportunities and ensure compliance with regulations.

  • Define subsystem specifications and basic design; produce system budgets (link, mass, power, etc.).

  • Design, develop, and simulate the space segment; interface with telecom and payload engineers.

  • Design and specify the ground segment and operations environment.

  • Conduct troubleshooting, performance analysis and optimization of space and ground systems.

  • Develop algorithms and interface systems with simulators.

  • Manage procurement processes and oversee AIT/AIV activities, qualification campaigns, and environmental tests.

  • Coordinate with satellite manufacturers, ground segment providers and external partners.

  • Participate in demo campaigns and interface with customers, research institutes and government agencies.

  • Prepare project proposals, funding documents, contracts and bidding documents.

  • Maintain proper documentation of all technology developments.

  • Report on task follow-ups, manage risk registers and provide monthly progress updates.

  • Coordinate multi-partner inputs for mission execution and spacecraft procurement.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in similar positions.

  • At least 1 year of experience with mechanical and/or electrical design of small satellite systems (industry or academia).

  • Experience with AIT/AIV processes for small satellite systems.

  • M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.

  • Knowledge of ECSS standards, understanding of spacecraft operations and ground systems preferred.

  • Experience with CubeSat projects.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Ambitious with a sense of urgency and ability to adapt in an entrepreneurial environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
