Position Description Network Operations Centre (NOC) Engineer
- Job Description Overview The Network Operations Centre (NOC) Engineer is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and supporting the organization's network infrastructure and critical IT services. This role ensures high availability, performance, and reliability of systems by proactively identifying issues and responding to incidents in real time. Key Responsibilities Monitor network devices, servers, applications, and cloud platforms using monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix, Datadog, PRTG). Respond to alerts, incidents, outages, and performance degradation in a timely manner. Perform initial troubleshooting, diagnosis, and resolution for network- and system-related issues. Escalate incidents to Level 2/Level 3 teams according to SOPs and defined severity levels. Create, update, and maintain incident tickets in ITSM systems (ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy, etc.). Conduct routine health checks on network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, WAN links, VPNs). Collaborate with network engineers, system admins, and security teams during major incidents. Provide clear communication and real-time updates to stakeholders during outages. Document incident reports, root cause analysis summaries, and resolution steps. Participate in on-call rotations and shift-based operations (24×7 environment). Ensure compliance with security policies, change management procedures, and standard operating processes. Support scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and patching activities. Identify recurring issues and suggest improvements to monitoring, automation, and process workflows. Required Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience). Basic to intermediate knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, VPN, routing, switching). Understanding of network devices and protocols (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, BGP, OSPF, MPLS). Experience with monitoring tools (SolarWinds/PRTG/Nagios/Zabbix or equivalent). Familiarity with Linux and Windows OS fundamentals. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and documentation abilities. Ability to work in 24×7 shift environments and handle high-pressure incidents. Preferred Skills Certifications such as CCNA, Network+, or equivalent. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) monitoring and operations. Knowledge of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change Management). Exposure to SIEM tools, log analysis, and security operations. Key Attributes Proactive and detail-oriented. Strong sense of urgency and accountability.
