Data Analyst

About the position

Psybergate is an IT company that builds bespoke software solutions and provides highly skilled resources to its clients.

We are looking for a Data Analyst to join our financial services client in Sandton on a 12-month contract role. What you will be doing:

• Perform deep-dive analysis across diverse datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and business opportunities
• Translate business and project requirements into actionable data solutions and insights
• Manage and deliver multiple ad hoc reporting requests with accuracy and relevance
• Design and maintain scalable data models to support analytics and reporting
• Understand and manage end-to-end data flows, from source systems to reporting layers
• Develop and optimise data pipelines and integrations using modern development practices
• Work with enterprise databases including IBM DB2, Oracle, Netezza, and SQL Server to extract, transform, and analyse data
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical specifications and reporting frameworks
• Create dashboards and reports using Power BI and advanced MS Excel techniques
• Support AI/ML initiatives by preparing data and contributing to model development and deployment
• Apply strong analytical thinking to solve complex business problems and generate insights
• Document data logic, methodologies, and findings for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Manage workload independently, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outputs
• Communicate insights and technical concepts clearly to business stakeholders

What we are looking for:

• Relevant degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 8+ years’ experience in data analytics, software development, and systems architecture
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or R
• Extensive experience working with enterprise databases (DB2, Oracle, Netezza, SQL Server)
• Solid understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, and system design principles
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, model lifecycle, and data preparation
• Advanced skills in MS Excel (pivot tables, formulas, macros)
• Experience with Power BI for data visualisation and reporting
• Exposure to tools such as Tableau or similar is advantageous
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and business teams
